Law of Consumer Credit (2nd edition) builds on the reputation of the first edition as a comprehensive commentary on, and analysis of, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 (CCCFA). Written by credit and consumer law specialist Associate Professor Barry Allan, this book is a contemporary and comprehensive analysis of this fast-changing and far-reaching area of New Zealand law.
The author’s analysis of the CCCFA is divided into two parts. The first part consists of eight discursive chapters beginning with a general introduction to the key features of the CCCFA, followed by seven further chapters each of which is designed to provide readers with insights into the following key features of the Act. These include initiation and entry to a contract, disclosure, costs of credit hardship, enforcement, consumer leases, guarantees and buy-backs, oppression and remedies. The second part of the book complements the introduction by providing readers with the full text of the CCCFA, along with section-by-section commentary. The book also contains the full text of the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Regulations 2004, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance (Infringement Offences) Regulations 2015 and the current version of the Responsible Lending Code.
The new edition of Law of Consumer Credit captures developments since 2017, such as buy-now-pay-later lenders, loan affordability assessments, estimation of expenses and considers the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Amendment Bill 2025 and its possible impacts. This book is a must have for all commercial and consumer lawyers, banks and other lending institutions, the Courts, consumer watchdog organisations, and students studying finance and consumer law.
