Legal Aid Handbook (Book)

The Legal Aid Handbook provides current information on the new legal aid regime under the Legal Services Act 2011 and regulations.

It contains the only available annotated commentary on the new legislation, and tables that have been created to allow readers to compare the sections of the 2011 Act with those of the Legal Services Act 2000.

The changes will affect legal aid lawyers from an administrative and operational perspective. The Legal Aid Handbook ensures practitioners have the practical tools and support to meet their obligations in line with the new legislation, including contact details, relevant forms and webpages, and an “Introduction to Legal Aid Practice” under the new regime written by the Thomson Reuters author team.

The Legal Aid Handbook also considers the future direction of the legal aid system, including the Ministry of Justice’s “Sustainable Legal Aid Factsheet”, which provides information about the Government’s recently announced intention to further change the system so as to ensure its financial sustainability.
